Yea We Live But Do We Learn?

We live and we learn right? That may be but what do we do with all that we've learned? All that we learn where does that go? Most likely to the government in some form of taxes or maybe the aliens are stealing our knowledge at night. My personal belief is that the great wisdom we gather is destroyed by drug and alcohol laws which are needless.

We learn, learn how to make bigger guns bigger tanks but we can’t seem to learn to live without them. I have fought and I have learned. Others who boast of their strength and threaten to do something are most likely out to prove something. I know from experience that when the decision is made there is no turning back from the confrontation and no getting out of the outcome. If you lose you hurt if you win you hurt and some never learn.

People need big contrasting events to even consider change in their lives. That or avoid that change for as long as possible. We fear the unknown like kids fear the dark well change scares the shit out of the best of us. From 5 to 50 we all sleep with the light on. There is nothing in the closet but old boots and winter coats nothing to fear my fellow readers.

Learning brings about change and change is the only constant thing in the nature of life. Embracing change will abolish fear. With a question we bring the contrasting possibilities of a  thousand unknowns and the changing reality of a situation, nothing is set in stone and even stone changes with time. We must remember that we are the changing nature that surrounds us.

The story, our story, your story any good story.

Immersed in the chapters unable to pull away something has locked you in to the fate of the story and the characters.  I have spent countless late nights reading and reading determined to find out what will happen. There is always one last chapter one last page till I finally surrender to sleep with tired blood shot eyes. By the end of the book the only gratification is starting the next book in the series.

Stories are primary and pivotal to our lives. Whether by book or TV they are the teachers to our children and the inspiration for so much through the adventures of life. Stories are our backbone our trip to another universe or the reminder of this one. Stories enrich our lives and bind us together with our predecessors and our fellow man.  History’s lessons and life’s secrets are within the pages of books, and on cable.

Each person may have their own idea of a good story but all can agree that time is well spent hearing a good one out to its conclusion. I have a deep love for a good book and I enjoy a move now and then. Whether by book or move I must feel a human connection an emotional one, I most relate to the characters and their situation. I have thrown out books and walked out of theaters. Rather than waste my time on mediocre wannabes; my judgment may not be yours. But there are good ones and there are flops I for one am continually surprised by how many people buy in to the popular. And the crowds that the new and in things create. People I think want to sit at the cool table more than actually enjoy themselves. I can’t sit through something for the sake of its popularity. To me it would be the same as eating worms because all the big restaurants are selling them; hopefully I won’t half to eat my words.

Time Traveling Mornings

I find mornings cold and lonely. Perhaps that’s why I like them; I love to look over at my wife with her mouth slightly open wandering in some dream. The persistence of birds telling the world I don’t know but it sounds like complaining to me. I love the solitude of a good morning. When the world is still rubbing the sleep out of its eyes, the sun only warning of is inevitable coming.

Slipping out of the warm blankets to the cold morning warmed only by my morning tea with extra honey. I was born in a cold and wet place most people stay away from preferring to look at it in postcards. Washington is well known for 2 things 1 being the rainiest state and 2 being the state with the highest suicide rate. But I am not mentioning the unsurpassed beauty of the place. Hills after rolling hills covered with dark green pines all moving in unison to the wind. I love Washington how I love that place cemented in my memory. Cold mornings remind me of the days of my childhood spent playing in the rain and running in the woods the feeling of solitude washing over like the rain.

It’s funny but looking back at a place I wished so badly to leave I can find no bad memories only good times. But I know in my heart I can never go back and see it as I did as a child. I have seen too much and been gone too long. But the damp cold California mornings act as my time machine back to the past, back to that place. Flooded with the damp sensations of a cold morning surrounded by solitude I am pulled back in time whisked away to memories of dark forest and misty days.

I once thought that Washington was stuck in the past now I think California is stuck in summer. There’s not much for sessions here. Time and the people are seemingly in summer all year long. The pine trees are replaced with well groomed palm trees. Rainy days with blue skies never ending. The gold California sun is persistently beating as the rain of my childhood home. My heart is big and there is a place for both places and more to come. I love California with all its surfboards and sunny days. I spent the first part of my life in winter it makes sense that the next would be in summer. Perhaps the sessions of my life will bring me full circle once again.

BREAD AND CHEESE

So simple a lunch or snack with such gratification the crunch of slightly toasted French bread the soft creaminess of good goat cheese. Simple and filling. And we cannot forget the Mediterranean olives with their explosive flavor my wife’s favorite and another reason not to forget.

You see, bread and cheese both are very old. Bread going back some 30,000 years before Christ and cheese going back to 8000 years before Christ according to Wikipedia that is. What I am getting at is that we have had some time to get good at making them. So when you bite in to a good piece of toast and cheese you are biting in to thousands of years of practiced precisions. What was first a way of preserving food a necessity for survival has now evolved in to staples of our civilization. We don’t need to preserve milk for a hike through the desert or store grain for months on end. Without the constant fear of something we are left with room and time to prefect on our predecessor’s ingenuous creations.

Food like life is for enjoyment each bite filed with new tastes and textures. There are hundreds of breads to combine with millions of cheeses. Some people dedicate their lives to the pursuit of delicious food. This is it right here and I want some! I want to bite in to a master baker’s bread covered with the creamiest Brea cheese right from the artisan cheese maker. Tasting it loving it and inevitably wanting more of it.

Defining Experience

I am only 26 years old but I have learned that when you think you got life figured out life has a right hook to the side of the head waiting for you. Every instance in life is experience by definition of the word. But living each day is not experiencing life that’s survival. We are all survivors and all have scars we could show off and compare. What point is there living a life defined by the violent, sad and even disturbing conflicts within our experience?

Some would say that the scars and obstacles we experience in life help us grow and expand in life and without them where would we be? I will not dispute that the troubles of living define most people’s lives until they find their deaths. We can experience more than our struggles. As the wise and powerful Yoda said “war not make one great”.  Someone else’s can blog about pain and struggle. For me to experience life is to perceive, understand and enjoy all that is the experience of life and to seek out more.

Forgotten Curiosity

I like to imagine myself sailing out to a world unexplored. When the winds of life take hold of your preverbal sails and you are driven to places you could not imagine. You become the explorer. We are all explorers setting out into an unknown world. When we were kids we had the right idea, questioning each and every thing that crossed our path. Wanting and wishing to experience it. That does not have to leave us with age. Just because we have to shave and pay bills does not mean that we out grow the love and curiosity of life. I think to live life as a child would be to live like each day is brand new.

Judgments we all have them. About basically everything under the sun to see and experience things outside what you may consider comfortable you got to challenge the beliefs you have that are holding you back from life. Like the kid who would eat glue in school you looked at him like he was crazy but you will never now the joys of a good tasting glue.

Introductions

Wow I did it, I have a blog. Not even five minutes and it’s made. Something I have considered for some time and now it's here. I have chosen exploration of life as my topic simply because that is my way of living. To explore, see, taste and live life as much as I can before I croak.

I hope to share with you and the world my adventures, mishaps, mistakes and all my misspellings in life past and present.

Thanks for taking a look.
